This resource is a guide for procuring parts, assembling kits, and teaching the fundamentals of repairing a lamp.
The Activity:
Each kit is comprised of the basic components of a lamp — plug, cord, socket, bulb and power source, along with required tools — a multimeter, screwdriver and wirestripper. The components are assembled but there is a break in the circuit — in the bulb, socket, cord or plug. Using a multimeter, students locate the problem, then use the wirestripper and screwdriver to repair it.
The Kits:
Users procure parts and assemble kits. Parts are specified. Community repair advocates or other semi-skilled volunteers are excellent resources for assembling kits.
