This supervisor guidebook was developed in 2021 to launch Oakland Unified School District’s Student Chromebook Repair program, established during the pandemic as students returned to in-class learning.
The vision: “Every student in OUSD will have 1:1 Chromebooks access at school and OUSD students serving as interns will have real-world hardware and software troubleshooting and repair experience to help build their future career interests and opportunities.”
In the first summer of operation, 43 student interns repaired over 3000 computers returning from over a year of at-home virtual learning to in-class use. The program developed into Oakland Tech Repair, an ongoing summer and school-year student internship that repairs district Chromebooks and other devices. See Sam Berg’s Note from the Field for details.
The Supervisor’s Guide includes vision and goals, structure and schedule, logistics, work protocols, and more.
