The Repair Manual

The Repair Manual offers a good overview of conceptual and practical issues related to integrating repair into the economy. Highly accessible, it’s an excellent component of teaching high school students circular economy concepts.

The 23-page document is a compilation of key insights from interviews with six people discussing integrating repair into the private sector. The Manual draws from the podcast Untangling Circularity, the second season of which focused on “one of the cornerstone principles of the circular economy: extending the lifespan of products through repair.”

The text rests on the concept of “embodied energy” and is organized around five throughlines: materials, customer service, design, technology and happiness.

The podcast offers the opportunity for a deeper exploration of topics.
